Notts County Sailing Club hosted the annual First of the Year Race on New Years Day.

Although there was a distinct lack of wind, thirty five boats took part. Visitors came from as far away as the Royal Akarana SC in Aukland New Zealand, to Carsington, Hykeham, Nottingham & Attenborough.

Racing started at near 12 noon as the wind was so light, some competitors needed towing to the line. Notts County's Kevin Hope & James Cooper opened up an early lead in a Fireball, leading from the first mark, easily winning on the water and handicap.

The next few places were a little more closely fought, Pete Walters and Lindey Ogden coming second in an RS400, Richard Carter from Hykeham third in a Phantom. David & Nick Marrow were fourth in a Lark and Simon Hextell & Fiona Bath fifth in a Fireball.

Prizes where awarded in the clubhouse afterwards and the entry fees go to the RNLI.
