2002 Jubilee Regatta attracts record participation

The club attracted a record entry for the Jubilee Regatta held over the bank holiday weekend. It was a great weekend enjoyed by all and thanks should go to all the members who worked so hard, especially the catering, bar, scorers and race officer and safety crew. There were plenty of red faces, and it wasn't just the overly bright sunshine (especially in the morning).

Visitors from Cheshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland took part in three days of close and exciting racing in the light to moderate winds.

The accent was on an enjoyable family weekend and the first two days saw sunshine and some excellent socials to compliment the on water activity.

It is estimated well over a third of the 400 club members took part in the activities over the weekend, which included bouncy castles, build a model yacht, Topper sailing, rigging competitions, Team 15 (under 15) windsurfing events and the racing, including a night race.

With over seventy dinghies and windsurfers taking part in the racing it was split into class racing in the mornings and handicap racing for the Commodore's Cup in the afternoon.

The Commodore's Cup was won in convincing style by Notts County member Mike Kerslake in his new carbon International Moth. He sailed it to perfection in the lightish breeze, beating Tom Fenn and Alex Piggott in a Fireball and John Sears and Nigel May in an RS400. It was notable that in the first five places there were five classes, so the handicap system was working well.

The class racing saw between four to twelve boats taking part in class racing, the results are below.

Results: Commodore's Cup: Mike Kerslake (Int Moth), 2nd Tom Fenn & Alex Piggott (Fireball), 3rd John Sears and Nigel May (RS 400), John & Karen Marshall (Scorpion), 4th Mike Lowe (Laser), 5th Will Gardiner and Sam Parker (F15)

Class: Menagerie: Mike Kerslake (Int Moth- Notts County), Fireball: Helan Sailsburry (Staunton Harold), Flying 15: Will Gardiner and Sam Parker (Notts County), Scorpion: John & Karen Marshall (Notts County), Laser: Cathie Reed (Notts County), Enterprise: Janathan & Karl Lye (Notts County)

Night Race: Martin & Jemma Stott
