The day started with no wind and blue skies, within an hour the wind had increased and the skies had darkened, fortunately the rain held off until 5pm.

Four races made up the open meeting and with only one day to fit it all in, we had our work cut out. We had 20 competitors in two types of dinghy, Access 303 for double handers and single handers and the Access 2.3 for single handers. A hoist would have been far better, but man power had to prevail. The club needs to make more of an effort for disabled people. As able bodied people, we sometimes forget people with not as much mobility should be able to enjoy sailing too.

The first race lasted 40 minutes which brought us nicely up to lunchtime. After lunch, Access 303 started racing first, the next two races were back to back which means the second race follows the finish of the first race. After the third race, all competitors were ready for afternoon tea, a well earned 45 minute break for both competitors and shore crew.

The race officer did not have the luxury of a break with the Saturday Club racing as well. The last race started at 4 pm, afterwards prizes were presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd helm and crew 303, 1st place single handed 303, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place 2.3. Afterwards there was just enough time to pack the boats away ready for the long drive home.
