The annual Notts County Sailing Club first of the year race took place on New Years Day and saw nearly thirty craft take part in light and variable winds, with some stronger gusts. However at least it wasn't as cold as the previous two days.

Visitors came from Rotherham, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and over £100 were raised from entry fees to go to the RNLI. In addition £66 was raised from Sale of unclaimed Lost Property.

After a false start Pete Walters and Lindsay Ogden in a 400 led the race, however being a handicap race they were not the overall winners.

It was a close run race with little to separate the top five, which saw five different classes, which is unusual for this type of race.

The winners were David & Nick Marlow (Chilwell) from Attenborough Sailing Club who won in a Lark. An RS 200 class dinghy from Rotherham sailed by Alan & Tom Gillard was second, whilst the first Notts County boat was Nigel Potter and Simon Hibbard in a Scorpion. The first windsurfer home was Notts County Sailor Ian Pilkington.
