The Fast and The Furious Hit NCSC
The kids of NCSC had real fun in the Honda RIB Youth Challenge held on the 19th July at the club. Not only did they have fun but also they used vital skills that they had learned which could save lives!!

The timings of the trials were excellent, some people were below 2 minutes, but no one could have achieved what they did without the training that took place on Tuesdays and Saturdays over the previous weeks. Twenty kids took part in this training but not everyone could attend the competition.

The afternoon ran smoothly thanks to the organisation of Ian Pilkington and his team of Stuart, Mary, Tim and Denise.

Each competitor had to drive a course that included slaloms, a high speed straight, picking up a MOB (man over board) reversing around a buoy, a flying start and a flying finish. To do all of that in 1 minute 58 seconds like Sean Clark, (winner of the 8 - 13 group and 1 minute 57 seconds like Amy Jennings (winner of the 13 - 16 group) did, is truly amazing but there was no way they could have got these times without the help of Ian and Stuart and the other trainers; Pete, Neil, Simon, and John Norman Parr (the club President) awarded the prizes in the clubhouse afterwards, congratulating all of the competitors, "Not only were the times excellent but the handling was better than some adults we have in the club."

Trophies were awarded to the first three places in each age group. Certificates were awarded to everyone. A wetsuit was given to the fastest timed competitor in the junior group and a wind top and gloves were given to the fastest timed competitor in the senior age group.

Prizes were donated by the sponsor of the day's event - Nottingham Offshore Marine. The next round - the Regional final - will be held at Holme Pierrepont on the 10th August. Amy Jennings and Sian Pilkington will represent NCSC there.

We bid good luck to them because if they succeed in the Regional final they will go through to the National final at the Southampton Boat Show in September!
