Although many of the usual faces missing due to preparations for the Europeans in Slovenia 24 Fireballs arrived at Notts County Sailing Club home of the current Fireball World and European champions, for the Typhoon Open

The southerly wind remained in the 15 - 20 knot range for the whole weekend giving rise to some spectacular capsizes and keenly contested races, all enjoyed by the enthusiastic crowd on the club house balcony.

Three races were held on Saturday afternoon, two back to back and the third after a short break which allowed the visitors to sail right up until the end of the day and two races on Sunday morning.

Kevin Hope & Jim Cooper from the home club won the first race and achieved a string of seconds, but it wasn't enough to secure the lead and Dave Wade & Richard Wagstaff of Northampton with three firsts won by two just points overall. John Curzon & Pete Helver also won a race to finish third overall.
