Martin Stott of Notts Countycame a close second to ex national champion David McKee at the Flying 15 Open meeting at Notts County this weekend. The light to moderate winds made for some good racing, and the result could have gone either way till the final race. General report & results: Nearly twenty flying fifteen dinghies arrived at Notts County Sailing Club for the annual Flying 15 Open meeting. The keelboats always provide close tactical sailing, with only one person winning more than one of the five races this year was no exception, in the light to moderate breeze. Visitors came from all over the country including Tees, Dovestone (Yorkshire), Bala (Wales), Burton & Carsington. The first race on Saturday saw the eventual winner David & Sally McKee win, after a break for lunch it was the home sailors turn and Martin Stott & Penny Jeffcote took two firsts in the afternoons races. This left Martin looking in a good position on the first day. Sunday's first race was delayed half an hour to let the wind fill in, and David & Susan Giles won, with David McKee second, meaning he was virtually unbeatable for overall, but there was plenty to play for further down the fleet, as Martin scored his worst result. He pulled back on the last race, rounding the windward mark in a good position, but it was Peter & David Kitchen's turn for the limelight, and they went on to win the race by a good margin. This left Martin in second and David Giles in third on equal points. Results: 1st: David & Sally McKee (Dovestone) 2nd: Martin Stott & Penny Jeffcote/Lindsay Ogden (Notts County) 3rd: David & Susan Giles (Tees & Hartlepool YC) 4th Peter & David Kitchen (Tees & Hartlepool YC) 5th Will Gardener & Simon Parker (Notts County) | ![]() | ![]() |
