The Scorpion dinghy sailing class Inland Championships were held at Notts County Sailing Club this weekend. Rob Gardiner from the home club crewed the winning boat in the testing conditions, he was helmed by Vince Horey from Fishers Green. Competition was fierce with nearly 100 competitors taking part from all over the country, the next Notts County boat was Andy Smith in fifth. The silver fleet had more success with Dave Snutch and Susan Etterley of Notts County coming second.

The Scorpion Inland Championships held at Notts County Sailing Club attracted just short of fifty boats, coming from as far a field as Cornwall, Wales, the South Coast, Yorkshire and of course Nottinghamshire.

The number of boats meant the fleet had to be split into four flights for Saturday's three races. The results of Saturday's racing split the fleet into Silver & Gold and Saturday's results became the non discardable first race.

The North Easterly conditions were testing with marginal winds on Saturday, the skilled managed to plane on the well set and challenging course. Sunday was windier and a number capsized in the planning conditions.

The stand out crew where Vince Horey from Fishers Green near London and Robert Gardiner from Notts County who won virtually every race, in spite of hardly ever sailing in a Scorpion before, both are top Fireball sailors, and Rob crewed in boat which won the Scorpion Nationals.

Second in the gold fleet with a first and two seconds was Steve Walker and Chris Muxworthy from Pennine, third was Dave Woodhead and Jerry Hannabus from Elton. Meanwhile the silver fleet was closer with Sandra McDine & Kate Gurner from Castle Cove winning by a point from Dave Snutch and Susan Etterley from the home club.
