Sat. 23-Sun. 24th September 06. Nearly 20 boats contested the Notts County Sailing Club Flying Fifteen Open meeting held over the weekend of 23rd-24th September.

Race 1. The wind on the Saturday was light and variable with large wind shifts. Dave Mckee ( ff 3805 ) crewed by Andy Farmer were the first to master the conditions taking the lead on the first reach followed by the Kitchen brothers ( ff 3790) and Pete Walters/John Allen ( ff 3685 ). Middle fleet positions changed with the wind shifts but the leading 3 boats remained in formation till the end of the race.

Race 2. Was held in similar conditions. Boats that went left on the first beat benefited from a huge wind shift allowing T. Tomlinson / M.Grear (ff 2433 ) to round the windward mark first. They held this position for some time before being overhauled by McKee. They were however able to cross the line in 2nd place followed by the Kitchen brothers.

Race 3. The wind by race 3 was varying in direction making it difficult for the race crew to lay the first mark. With the windward mark laid and the line set the 3 leading boats of Mckee/Kitchen and Walters decided that the pin end was favoured and decided that was the place to start but with 20 second to go the wind shifted favouring boats starting at the committee boat end. Will Gardner/Tom McEvoy ( ff 3655 ) took advantage of the lift and were first round the windward mark eventually pulling out a substantial lead which the retained to the finish.. McKee slowly worked his way through the fleet into second place followed by Kitchen and Tomlinson. After two laps the wind started to fade and with just the long run down the lake to the finish Walters decided to take a flyer down the right of the course overtaking both Kitchen and Tomlinson to take 3rd place.

After the first day's racing it appeared that McKee was to complete a hat trick by winning the event yet again but second place was open to any of 3 boats raced by Gardner, Kitchen and Walters.

4th Race. Despite the early 10.30 start there was just enough wind for the Race Officer to get the fleet away at the first attempt, Walter took an early lead tacking up the centre of the lake to be overtaken by boats that chose the far left of the course. R.Finsh / J, Reid ( ff 2658 ) rounded first eventually to be overtaken by McKee. Gardner eventually crossed in 3rd. The wind subsequently dropped to zero forcing the Race Officer to abandon any further racing. Thus Gardner's 3rd place in the final race was enough to give him second overall with Kitchen 3rd and Walters 4th.
