A high standard of powerboat driving was witnessed at the club heat of the Honda RYA Youth RIB Challenge. Over 30 juniors took part in the training held over the last 7 weeks on Monday nights and 20 of them competed in the club competition held last Saturday 22nd July.

The youngsters timings were very close and powerboat instructors, Julie Hall and Ian Pilkington, were impressed by the competency and control the youngsters showed.

There were 9 competitors for the 8 -12 age group.

The club heat was sponsored by Nottingham Offshore Marine who provided prizes for both age groups down to fourth place.

13-16 group
1st Mark Unwin (1min 32) 2nd Rebecca Ogden(1min 36) 3rd Sian Pilkington (1 min 37) 4th Aimee Coghill (1 min 46)

Trophies, prizes and certificates were presented by Rear Commodore, John Parr.

Joe Jacks and Mark Unwin are to represent the club at the regional final to be held on September 2nd at Girton sailing club. This is the second year that Mark Unwin has come first for the upper age group and has represented the club. The final is to be held at Southampton Boat show on Saturday 23rd September

The training and club heat was organised by Ian Pilkington. Powerboat instruction was from Julie Hall, Neil Jacks Glynn Myatt, Ian Pilkington John Riddell and Neil Unwin. Club heat timekeeper was Ian Ogden.
