The Notts County Sailing Club windsurfing Open Meeting attracted an excellent entry of over 50 boards being part of the Midlands Series. There were over thirty youngsters and twenty adults competing in the sunshine with a light to moderate breeze making for superb sailing conditions. Notts sailors were successful in the 7.5 class and the junior 3.5 class, Daniel Wilson was third overall having been leading at lunch, and excellent result as this was the first race he had entered. Amy Robinson was sixth in the same class. Meanwhile in the adult Raceboard class Ian Plikington was second and Russ Towns third. General report The Notts County Windsurfing open meeting incorporates the adult Midlands Series which sails at about ten events with competitors from all over the Midlands including Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Birmingham, Leciestershire and Northamptonshire. Over fifty competitors aged 8 to 68 took part in a day of glorious racing, sunshine, warmth and a pleasant breeze. The Raceboards sailed generally by the adults have an unlimited class won by Tim Colles with Bob Ingram from Chase second. The 7.5 sq m sail class was more popular swelled by the local Notts County windsurfers and was won by Mike Playle of Leicester, with Ian Pilkington second, and Russ Towns third, both from the home club. The Techno class, the feeder class for the Olympics had nine entries and saw Lewis Robinson from Bosworth win all but the races and the 7.8 Techno class with Josh Leadbetter winning the 6.8 Techno class coming second overall, Jamie Ingram was second on the 7.8s and Matthew brown second in the 6.8 fleet. The Team 15 windsurfing took place on two separate courses. Team 15 is an initiative by the National body the RYA to encourage youngsters into windsurfing using a club atmosphere with regular days when the children sail, so encouraging the sport & the social scene. By far the largest fleet was the fourteen 3.5 sq m (less than half the adult size) which had two eight year olds competing. The fllet is aimed at beginners so the course is very simple and relied on beach starts and a form of handicapping. There were nine short simple races with Robyn Robinson from Bosworh winning, Sophie Archer from Pitsford second and Daniel Wilson sailing in his first event, from Notts County third. On a box course there was a 4.5, 5.5 and 6.8 sq m class with a total of ten entries. Dale Burgess of Carsington won the 4.5 open with a string of first and seconds, with Tom Owen from Bosworth second and Charlie money also from Bosworth third. Charlie Worthington from Bosworth won the 5.5 and Theo Hempshall from Carsington was the only 6.8 competitor.
