The Notts County Sailing Club Laser & single handed open attracted a strong entry from all over the East Midlands, with nearly 40 boats completing in the moderate winds and sunshine, a pleasant change from the ain forecast. The single handed open saw Paul Brown (Woodthorpe) from the home club win in his Finn. Meanwhile in the larger Laser fleet Steven Lindley from Notts came second in one race and finished third overall, first master was Tim Cripps from the club, and the smaller sailed 4.7 fleet was won by Rebecca Ogden, with Amy Clay second, both from the home club. The first youth was Rob Morris from the Notts County.

General Report The Notts County Sailing Club Laser Open Meeting was held over the weekend, and saw some rain but general superb sailing conditions often in sunshine, with a good force 3 to 4 blowing straight down the lake. The Race Officer Nadina Lincoln set an interesting and testing course. An excellent entry of thirty seven sailors took part. This proved to be excellent viewing for the considerable number of club members watching from the club balcony.

The first race saw the pattern from the day being established with Andrew Wilde (Carsington) leading from start to finish with the main challengers coming from Steven Lindley (NCSC) and Craig Williamson (Staunton Harold). There followed a break for lunch and the second race saw Andrew Wilde win again, giving him victory, but further down there were capsizes and a number of place changes, including second place, this time with Craig Williamson finishing ahead of Steven Lindley. The third race was held back to back. Wilde completed a hat trick of wins with Tim Cripps (NCSC) finishing 2nd and Williamson 3rd.

Wilde therefore took a well deserved overall victory from Williamson, Lindley and Cripps. Notts County Laser fleet has progressed tremendously over the past 12 months and it was rewarding to see so many of our younger and less experienced sailors competing in the open meeting.

The prize giving reflected their success with prizes being presented to not only the Open meeting winners but also to many of the junior and less experienced sailors.

Meanwhile on the same day Notts County held their single handed open, won by the Treasurer Paul Brown in his Finn from Bob Seagrove also from the home club in his contender.
