The RYA North Zone Championships Information sheet for visitors & competitors - pdf Notts County have been invited to hold this prestigeous event this year by the RYA. The event will take pace on Saturday and Sunday 29th and 30th September. The zone championships provides a Junior area championship for windsurfers , Toppers , Optimists and 405's. We have , of course , accepted the invitation. Holding the event has many
benefits to us: The event takes place over two days , with 3 races scheduled for the Saturday and 2 races for the Sunday. As this is very close to the
end of the season, so there will be very limited cruising opportunities
and we only accepted the event provided we could run Sunday racing. At
first we were thinking of mixing the racing, but realised this was impractical
so the times of the first warning signal are amended as follows: In this way both Junior races will take place before club sailing begins , club members will be able to help with the Junior event and still participate in the Class Races. The Notice of Race can be found
on the RYA Racing Events website : details
on entry and Notices of Race etc . Competitors in the Optimist shall
be under 16, on 31 December 2007; and in all other classes shall be under
17, on 31 December 2007. All competitors , both from Notts County and other clubs must enter the event on line at this site. We would like as many as possible of our junior members to take part in the event. In order to make it easier the club will refund 50% of the entry fee for every Junior who takes part. You will need to pay in full on line and then , after the event , we will issue a refund. The club will also run a training day for Juniors on Saturday 15th September 2007. This day will be free of charge. On this day we will provide both basic race training and also give an insight into how the racing will be run at the zone championship. I hope that this will really encourage the juniors top take part and really not be intimidated by a big event such as this. We are expecting around 100 juniors taking part, and we still need more volunteers to help , particularly rescue boat crews , onshore help and help behind the bar. If you would like to help please speak to either myself , John Parr or Phil Kilburn. On Sunday it will be crowded at lunch time, as a result please park carefully so as not to cause obstruction and take all bags out of the changing rooms to leave room for everyone (we will be asking the juniors to do the same). Please do come down to spectate and there will be a social in the evening vbut this will need pre booking. |
