UK Wayfarer Association
Cruising Conference Notts County Sailing club once again played host to the Wayfarer Class Association’s annual cruising conference on Friday and Saturday 6/7th April. The Saturday co-incided with a laser training day and a 405 day, so there was definitely great potential for the different groups to get in each other’s way.

I’m pleased to report than the winning combination of our excellent facilities and club members who are happy to help each other meant that all went well…apart from a brief period when a hail storm and an extremely gusty front meant that all sorts of people who could have been outside ended up inside looking at the weather!

The day was focussed on cruising, and so included presentations and demonstrations of clothing, passage planning, boat set up, where to spend the night, boat recovery, as well as a marvellous display of 4 different sorts of boat tent. Not sure how much call there is for that at Hoveringham, but the talks of cruising really showed just what a magical experience boat tenting can be. My own personal favourite was seeing how a 12 year old child can pull a fully rigged wayfarer up a beach for the night using fenders as rollers.

The event was much enhanced by marvellous catering led by Rachel McEvoy who was supported by a talented team of all the usual culprits! Basically, a good time was had by all, our club once again showed why it is such a great club to belong to, and the Wayfarer class association members thoroughly enjoyed themselves .
