Volvo Eco Challenge Notts County
The Notts County Eco team which consists of many of the club's junior sailors and some adults (led by Sarah Mason & Rachel Mcevoy (rear Commodore) met for the first time to discuss the expenditure of the Volvo Eco Challenge money (over £900) link to hand over of cheque.
Sarah has obtained costs from wastecycle, the only company in Notts that will collect and recycle our waste, it will cost slightly more than Newark & Sherwood Council who will not recycle.
There are three bins (colours as WRAP standards):
Glass
Card & Paper
General waste (which must be bagged)
Plastic & cans (loose in general bin)
One of the areas which requires alteration is behind the bar where the PA will be moved for recycling bins behind the bar, these will have colour coded stickers on. John Parr & Ray Lewing are actioning this - thanks.
The recycling will be in place for the start of the season. It was agreed it must be simple to use, so colour coded bins in banks of bins (x4) both inside the clubhouse and either on the veranda or conservatory. These are to be around 50l in size. Outside 2 sets of the four bins are required at either end of the clubhouse, by the steps. In addition the race office needs paper recycling, and the kitchen paper/card and waste.
Above each station we need a notice which can have a poster (by the juniors) with instructions and stickers on the bins. All Juniors are invited to submit an A3 (if possible - I can enlarge A4 though) poster on recycling waste preferably by 14th February so we can laminate them for the walk and put some up rotating them month by month. You can use computers / draw or whatever takes your fancy. Please send posters to website if in electronic format, or bring to dinner dance or send to David-Eberlin - 37-main st:NG14-7EY
Volvo hope to present the cheque during half term, all those who helped with the video will be welcome. (it will be at the local Volvo dealer - Stratstone (A610))
A fuddle will be held on Saturday 7th March at approx 2pm where all are welcome to the launch of the scheme at the club.
Thanks to Volvo for sponsoring the kick starting of the club becoming greener.
Other ideas include:
Water savers in the toilet cisterns
Nesting boxes
Wind & weather recording on site
Changing ceiling and lights in clubroom to low energy (to be investigated)
