Changes to racing 2009
Changes in the Racing Rules mainly involve around, water at the mark. (referred to as ‘ mark room‘) or zone.
The Sailing Committee have decided to accept the RYA recommendation,” that the zone is an area around a mark within a distance of 3 hull lengths of the boat nearer to it”.
We decided that if we left marks 5 and 6 in their present positions there was little room between them to gain an over lap before the leading boat entered the zone. (note we will be moving the mark after the First of the Year Race)
There was also little room to move them further apart so we have decided to move mark 5 into the centre at the narrow section of the lake and move mark 6 into the main section of the lake just off the point but with water around all sides so that it can be rounded from any direction. (see new map of the lake)
If setting a beat to 5 rounding to starboard intending to round seven to starboard please set mark 6 to port to keep boats away from the point.
The other main change to the Racing Rules of Sailing is Rule 87, which states. The Sailing Instructions may change a class rule only when the class rules permit the change.
Previously NCSC Sailing Instructions for Club Racing and Open Meeting Instructions covering handicap racing have been changed to permit boats that originally conformed to their class instructions to race. This is still the case. However if they do not conform to their Class Association Rules they may be subject to protest.
RACING CHANGES
Class Racing. Only 2 boats are required for a Class start.
Boats with class status can only start in the menagerie start if there is no other boat of that class intending to race.
