Sailing at Cannes

item8

A family sailing friend called Jenny Green (ex Fireball sailor) discovered about a year ago that she has Motor Neurone Disease and is now confined to a wheelchair.  Jenny has decided to devote what is left of her life to raising money to try and help find a cure for the disease to help others, even though it  will be too late to help her.

She has decided to sail her International Dragon keelboat in the Regates Royales at Yacht club de Cannes from 21-25 September. This is going to be quite a challenge for her. Any regatta at this level is a grueling test of physical and mental strength for all competitors, but for Jenny, is already reliant on a wheelchair for mobility and suffers from a gradually increasing loss of functionality throughout her body, competing in a regatta at this level is a truly extraordinary undertaking requiring huge physical and mental stamina.

I am very honoured that Jenny has asked me to be her third crew member along with her husband Malcolm.

Keep a track of our progress at Jenny’s website www.jennygreenchallenge.org and if you feel you are able to sponsor us please do so.

‪Jenny Achieves Her Goals Of Completing The Regates Royales And Raising Over £10,000!!!!‬

posted by Fiona Brown

That amazing human dynamo that is Jenny Green has pulled of an incredible feat of determination and endurance by completing the arduous Regates Royales 2010 sailing her Dragon keelboat.  Despite long days, extreme exhaustion and more than a few knocks and bruises Jenny came out fighting right through until the end.  Although she was forced to withdraw from one race, on a day when the race committee decided to go for a third race and Jenny's physical resources simply ran out, she none-the-less finished the regatta in 39th place from a field of 60 of the world's top sailors.

As if that isn't enough of an achievement she has also raised an incredible £10,174.84 so far to support research into Motor Neurone Disease so that those diagnosed with the disease in the future have a great change of early diagnosis, good treatments and perhaps even a cure so that Motor Neurone Disease will no longer be a terminal illness.

It's not too late to donate and support Jenny - go to  www.jennygreenchallenge.org.
