Sailability Chernobyl 8th March 2011
The first Chernobyl visit of the year took place on Shrove Tuesday March 8th with the Newark and Sherwood branch. Nine Belarusian children visited the club with their local guest families to enjoy a day’s sailing. The sun shone and there was a pleasant breeze. The children experienced trips on Stoke Ferry and they also had the opportunity to get afloat in the two cobles - some even enjoyed a bit of helming. It was a lovely day and an ideal introduction to sailing and no-one seemed to notice the cold weather.
After sailing the children enjoyed playing in the park on the swings and then pancake racing on the bank . After the fun and games Jill and Hilary, assisted by two guests, served pancakes from the galley for all to enjoy. The afternoon was finally rounded up with the children being presented with certificates before returning home. Thanks to all who helped.
