Children's Christmas party
Wow, what a fun afternoon! A good time was had by all this Saturday.
As it was our first Christmas party we were hosting we were a little nervous before it all began but thanks to the enthusiasm of every single member (young and a little older) who attended, we had nothing to worry about. I had a wonderful afternoon meeting members of the club that I haven’t seen before and seeing all the children in their finery, they looked fantastic in their party gear.
The games brought back memories but I had forgotten how hard it was to say to a little one that they were ‘out’ or they ‘hadn’t won’. The pass the parcel was an epic one as the social secretary was keen that every single child must open the parcel at least once, so 28 wrappers later we finally had a winner!
The spread was amazing, thank you to all the mums and dads for bringing such delicious food, the children did not run short of anything!! A big thank you to David Eberlin for turning up at just the right time as he was able to open the bar for a short while and take some photos too!
Father Christmas did an amazing job; arriving in style on Stoke Ferry and handing out a vast quantity of presents, so many that we lost count. The children were very excited to meet him. I think, at one point, he was quite overwhelmed as he got such a lovely hug that he nearly lost his beard!
One of my very best memories this year and certainly the most touching will be the one where I stood on the balcony quietly watching this sea of children in front of me all excitedly yelling and waving at an equally enthusiastic bell-ringing Father Christmas coming in to see them – it was quite magical.
Finally, just a huge thank you to the social committee who worked so hard in the background before the day. I couldn’t have done any of it without Ruth Dobson, Cathy Reynolds, Ian Pilkington, Sam Samuels and John and Karen Marshall and of course all the mums and dads who helped out on the day itself, so a big thank you to you all. I had a really lovely time!
