Emily third in Techno Worlds
Emily Hall, who most members who come down regularly will know, grew up at the club and has been travelling round regional and national circuits for a number of years with Jim & Julie. She has been in the National squad for a few years graduating from the zone squad. She had loads to smile about when she came down this week having flown back at the weekend.
This year she flew with her parents to San Francisco for the Techno Worlds and did the club proud with an excellent third place in the under 15 girls, and she is still only 13. Over 200 competitors took part from 27 countries. The British contingent did particularly well with two medals in three of the four fleets.
Emily was sailing in the under 15s and was beaten by Emma Wilson an ex-club member who was born in Nottingham and lived here until recently, when her parents moved to Christchurch.
The racing took place between Golden Gate bridge and Alcatraz with 4 knot currents, huge tankers and regular 20 knot winds meaning it was a real test of skill and endurance.
Emily won the practice race and had a string of second places. On the last of the seven days of racing she slipped to third place narrowly missing second spot.
She is sponsored by JP windsurf boards, Rik's windsurfing (Rutland) and Neil pryde sails.
On 3rd August, the Wednesday night windsurfers celebrated her success with a cake kindly prepared by Pauline.
Congratulations
