Junior Open 2012
Link to results.
Light winds and lovely sunshine greeted a busy day at NCSC on Saturday 14th July. The Junior Open was taking place, along with Solo, Laser (ladies) training, the last Kids Club of the season, Saturday racing as well as numerous club members making the most of an unusal (for 2012) pleasant day to be down at the club. A good turnout of eleven sailors, including an encouraging number from the Kids Club, signed up for the three race event. John Sears, RO, gave the briefing and soon the racing was underway. A full course in the gentle, and slowly dying, breeze gave a challenge to the more experienced and the novice racers alike. A close race developed on the water between the two Laser Radials of Matt Reynolds and Alex Hughes, with an overcooked, and wet, roll tack from Alex letting Matt through to take line honours. On handicap Lawrence Logan in his Topper just managed, by some 40 seconds, to take the race result. All the competitors got round the course in a long race, even if only 1 lap was completed. After lunch, a lighter and fickler wind meant a shorter course was set and again everyone managed to get around to a finish. Lawrence took honours on the water, and on handicap, with Matt Buchan sailing well to take 2nd position in his Topper. Matt (B) then managed to plot an excellent course for the third race in very light and testing conditions to give him a 1st position in Race 3, with a number of sailors deciding a return to the shore was a better option. It was great to see everyone enjoying the event and as well as the main prizes - see the results accompanying this report - Isobel Reynolds claimed 1st female, Louis Dobson the U13 Trophy and William Thomas, at only 8 years old, the Endevour trophy - well done to everyone. The Commodore, Rachel McEvoy, presented the trophies and prizes to all. Thanks go to the race team, the safety team and of course the shore crews; Pauline and Colin in the galley and all the parents and helpers. Nobel Marine Insurance and Hartley Boats Chandelry of Derby supported the prizes.
