Solo class
The National Solo dinghy is a classic, one-design, single handed dinghy. Designed by Jack Holt in 1956, the Solo dinghy still remains popular today.
While quite lively the Solo dinghy is not as physically demanding as a Laser or many of the other single crew designs. It is available in wood, composite or fibreglass and developments in rig technology mean that it can be sailed competitively by helms from nine and a half to sixteen stones.
The Solo has an active open meeting circuit both in the Midland and Northern Area. This is supported by many National events including a Nationals on the sea and Inland, Spring and Winter Championships on Inland waters.
The Solo obtained fleet status at Notts County Sailing Club for the 2010 season, with a fleet of eleven boats. In the first year we managed an average turn out of 5 boats in the summer class races which will hope to be building on in 2011. This year we will have our first Solo open meeting on the 11th June 2011 when we are expecting an excellent turn out.
