The Windsurfing Open at Notts County Sailing Club saw boards from all over the East & West Midlands competing in the meeting which is part of the Regional series. Notts County Sailing Club was well represented with nearly half the entrants coming from the home club.

Notts County sailor and Olympic windsurfer Penny Wilson was vying for first place against Leicester's Mike Playle. Catherine Potter in the Olympic squad was also competing.

The Raceboard fleet saw Mike Playle with two wins and Penny Wilson with one win a seconds. Jon White coming third in all but the second race. Richard Potter won the final race so Mike won the meeting, leaving Penny in second place. First middle was Tim Gibson and first Heavy Russ Towns from Notts County Sailing Club, with Steve Payne second heavy.

Racing started in a pleasant breeze, which was swinging all over, but by lunch it had dropped to a merest hint, and decided to come from virtually every direction, a nightmare for Paul Ogdon the Race Officer. The unlimited fleet saw Bob Ingram stamp his authority on the fleet with four wins. The next three places where however much closer, between Neil Davies, Ian Beasley & Jim West. Notts County sailor Ian Beasley was second and so came second overall.

Heavy: 1st Steve Payne (Notts County) 2nd Ron Clark (WFA). Aloha: Edward Dickin Unlimited: 1st Bob Ingram (Chase), 2nd Ian Beasley (Notts County), 3rd Nigel Davies
