Notts County Sailing Club Training successfully obtained a Sport for all grant for an Access dinghy, the club took delivery this weekend of the boat.

The club recently obtained Sailability status, meaning the club supports and teaches people with disabilities. In July the first certificates were awarded to disabled sailors, after the first course run for a Queens Park school.

The Access dinghy is 12ft long and designed for an instructor and disabled sailor, who can even be wheelchair bound. All the controls are led to in front of the sailors, and the jib and mainsail can be reefed using a roller reefing system. The heavy keel stabilises the boat and prevent capsizes (well mostly!).

The dinghy is to be used to give disabled sailors access to sailing and the ability to learn to control the boat. There is also a race circuit for the dinghy.

Courses will start next year, and anyone interested can contact the club through the website .
