Chris Dilks a well-known and respected windsurfer at Notts County Sailing Club was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on the way to work on Tuesday 4thSeptember 2001 aged only 32. He had recently married Joanne whom he had known for many years. Chris was better known earlier for his ice hockey having played in the first team for the Nottingham Panthers for two seasons where he is still fondly remembered. He joined Notts County Sailing Club ten years ago and soon picked up the sport. Chris's competitive element soon became evident as he started racing and then started to challenge more established members of the club particularly in strong winds. He soon started winning his weight group not only at the club but also on the Ruddles and Severn Trent East Midlands series. Chris was a regular first team member of the clubs entry in the National Team championships helping the club to a third place overall two years ago. He became very keen on short board sailing, and was often seen out on the same size sail as much lighter sailors, and planning very fast, he always had superb boardspeed, a real testament to his technique and skill on the water. All windsurfers and dinghy sailors who knew him at the club will sadly miss Chris and our best wishes and sympathies go to his wife and family. For those wishing to donate in memory of Chris we hope to collect money, not only for a wreath at the funeral, but for a more permanent memorial at the club, if the family wish it, alternatively the money will go to a charity of their choice. Please see or contact Steve Payne, Russ Towns, David Eberlin, Ian Beasley or route your request via any member of the club committee if you wish to contribute. |
