Notts County Sailing Club near Hoveringham held their Junior Open meeting along with hosting the Mirror class Midland championships.

With twenty mirrors and fourteen junior boats there was plenty of activity on the water. The rain cleared just in time for the start, and apart from a short shower seemed to leave the water with a cool moderate north easterly breeze.

The Junior racing was won by Notts County sailors Tom Jeffcote and James Perry who are part of the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) National squad. Second and third were the 405s of Bernard and Andrew Gammon from Covenham Sailing Club, followed by Josh & Ollie Wilce from Rutland SC, all in the National 405 squad. First all girl crew were Holly and Sophie Tuckwood from Notts County SC, who just beat Alison Bennett and Georgina Barney on discard.

The Mirror Midland championships saw some nail biting sailing with entrants from as far a field as Poole, Brightlinsea, Sunderland and of course closer to home Notts County SC. At the end of the first three races Staunton sailor Tim Gray crewed by Simon Foskett was just ahead of Richard Cornes and Katy Sharps of Winsford. Only 3 points separating the top three. It was all on the last day.

Results: Junior Open: 1st Tom Jeffcote & James Perry, Notts County SC (29er), 2nd Bearnard & Andrew Gammon, Covenham SC (405), 3rd Josh & Ollie Wilce, Rutland SC (405). 1st all girl boat: Hollie & Sophie Tuckwood, Notts County SC (405)
