Volvo Champion Club
The club has succesfully applied and been given RYA Volvo Champion Club Status (link is to National RYA Pages when available), we are the first club in the East Midlands with Dinghy and Windsurfing recognition, and only the second club to achieve this in the UK.
Volvo Champion Club status allows us access to the RYA Training scheme for Race Coaches, and a link with a local dealer, Speeds of Nottingham, for sponsorship.
The Club has put together a five year action plan for youth racing, bringing a minimum of 12 dinghy sailors and 12 windsurfers racing in RYA recognised classes. The long term aim is to have youngsters go to the Regional and National squads.
Notts County already has two windsurfers and two dinghy sailors in the RYA National Squads but by improving the standard of junior sailing we can help produce more potential members of squads, and of course aim for Olympic medals in 2004 and 2008.
The status has also helped with our bid to obtain new training boats from the Sports Council Lottery fund, which will allow us to provide match racing, team racing and more general training.
The Club Youth classes will be:
The aims are outlined in the diagram below:

We already have a large number of Race Coaches in the club and will be building on that base to provide regular RYA Race courses both Red & White, along with Race Officer Instruction, and this will be linked through from or Level 1 & 2 courses for dinghies and windsurfers.
This page will be updated with further details as news becomes available. Text
