The Youth and Junior Open took place at Notts County SC on 5th Sept there was a good turnout of talented individuals, including two HANSA dinghies, Toppers, an RS400 and ILCA. It was notable how the standard of sailing and racing has improved since last year, many completed a good number of laps.
John Sears the Race Officer set a simple triangle, and Sammy Mason was in a Coach boat for those nearer the back of the fleet.
The first race took place in largely sunny conditions, and a light wind with the occasional gust allowing planing. Whilst the RS400 of Cillian Dyne and Logan Bell led much of the racing on water, it was the lasers of Peter Gathergood and James Burton, along with the HANSA of Sebastien Florentin-Lee and Archie Alexander-Brown that was looking good on handicap, being close behind on the water. James won the first race with Sebastien second and Peter third.
The second race was back to back and again close on the water, though the top three results were the same.
After lunch the wind dropped and it was Sebastien’s turn to win on handicap, with James second. This left the results wide open going into the final race.
The final race saw Zhias Honeymoon win in a HANSA 203, with Sebastien and Archie second.
So the final results saw James win by a point, with Sebastien and Archie second and Peter third.
Neil the Commodore presented the junior trophy and prizes, thanks to Neil for prizewinners photo.
