Water Activities

The club is one of the most active in the Midlands, and has twice been in the finals of the RYA Club of the Year and in 2018 won in recognition if the Clubs ambitious and strategic plan to encourage sailing across all ages and abilities. Our many activities are best described by our weekly diary during the season.

Sailing Times:

2nd February to 30th SeptDawn to Dusk
1st October to 31st OctoberWednesday, Saturday, Sunday (plus Notts school half term week) only
31st October to 2nd FebruaryWednesday & Sunday only

During these times you can sail and SUP but you need to keep clear of racing.

Water Activities

Monday (Summer) Organised Open Water Swimming with our affiliated group (which provides safety cover for swimming on the small lake) only organised swimming is allowed on our premises for safety reasons.

Tuesday Evenings at 19:00: Casual sailing, coaching and racing for all. At times there will be on water help, and help rigging or setting up the boat. There are two handicap races followed by food from the Galley and the Bar. 

Wednesday  is windsurfing activities start in the afternoon, many come down around 2.30 onwards. The club often has coaching and windsurfing equipment for loan, including a youngsters Team 15 (when demand is there) or just come down and enjoy windsurfing. Open water swimming during day in summer.

Thursday Daytime: Nicknamed “last of summer wine” our retired group meets around 11am in the season, bring lunch and cake! But be ready to sail – if the weather is good. All are welcome, it is a relaxed and friendly group, there are often socials for any excuse (birthdays etc).

Thursday Eveningsstarting at 19:00 .Handicap racing with separate starts for fast and slow boats.  The evening is very popular.  Racing is followed by a convivial and tasty dinner & drink in the clubhouse. Thursday nights are a great opportunity to blow the cobwebs away and meet friends in the middle of the week.

Friday Afternoon / Evening  Organised Open Water Swimming with our affiliated group (which provides safety cover for swimming on the small lake) only organised swimming is allowed for safety reasons.

Saturday morning: Saturday Club for youngsters, all parents help out to provide informal sailing, coaching and fun for children to get on the water, learn or improve. Club boats are available, parents are asked to help in some form and have to be present. Classes often have coaching sessions in Spring (see website). Lunch is normally available. Saturday Afternoons starting at 14:15:  These are ideal for those new to racing.  with handicap races with separate starts for fast,slow and junior boats.  The water is open all day with cruising and children’s activities in the morning.  Why not come down in the morning, cruise, have some lunch at the club and then watch or join in the racing in the afternoon?

Sunday Racing: This runs from March to December and is the most popular and competitive sailing day when it is not unusual to have 50 – 60 boats racing at a time. Lunch is available and the bar is open
