Becoming an instructor

Instructor pathway at the club
The club is always keen to encourage and develop our volunteers, and this is particularly true when it comes to training. We are eager to develop both our current team of instructors as well as encourage new members to the team. There are several ways you can help us and in return we can help you to garner skills; whether that is in teaching newcomers to the sport or helping improve those already taking part. Both aspects are very rewarding; it is true that you usually get back more than you put in.
We always require general helpers for courses and if you have time and wish to volunteer, please just get in touch with us or volunteer as a helper on one of our courses. Generally, no specific experience is required only a smile and enthusiasm. Contact Principal@ncsc.org.uk to discuss or just sign up as a helper on SCM.
Alternatively, you may wish to become an instructor and there are a number of pathways you can take.

Dinghy Instructor
We have developed pathways to becoming a dinghy instructor. A key part of our Dinghy Instructors pathway is the introduction of NCSC Junior Assistant Dinghy Instructors – to encourage those aged under 16 to start on their journey as instructors.
Once you are 16 you can train to be a Dinghy Assistant Instructor and you may wish to “specialise” in teaching juniors and/or adults. You may also wish to become a full Dinghy Instructor or even a Senior Instructor and sponsorship towards RYA course fees will be available for those who have demonstrated a commitment to instructing at the club, T&Cs apply.
Please see the pathway links below or speak to our chief instructors, or development coach for further details.

Windsurf Instructor
For those more interested in Windsurfing a similar pathway exists and we are always keen to develop Assistant Instructors or support the development of full instructors.

Wingsurf Instructor
A new discipline, at least when it comes to RYA training there is now an option to become a Wingsurf instructor through the RYA. Again, sponsorship may be available to those who demonstrate a commitment to delivering training at the club.

Powerboat Instructor
If you hold a Powerboat 2 licence you may wish to pass on your skills as an RYA Powerboat Instructor. Why not help out on one of our courses to see what is involved. Sponsorship may be available for those who have demonstrated a commitment to training

First Aid Instructor
The club has a small number of RYA First Aid Instructors and we are always looking to supplement our team. You need to be an RYA Instructor in a Practical Discipline – yacht, power, sailing, wing or wind and have the relevant First Aid Qualification or equivalent (e.g. registered nurse, paramedic or doctor), Contact Principal@ncsc.org.uk to discuss if you are interested.

Swim safe Instructor
For those who are already Dinghy, Windsurf or Wingsurf why not become a Swim Safe instructor teaching water safety to young people – please contact Principal@ncsc.org.uk to discuss.

Please see our Instructor Pathway (adjacent) for more details on all of the above or contact the Training Principal or relevant Chief Instructor
