Aero open 2025
The first in the new Midland Aero Series was held at Notts County Sailing Club on Saturday 10th May. The event was supported by Rooster Sailing.
Nineteen Aeros from five clubs with three rig sizes (7,6,5) took to the water on a sunny warm Saturday morning. the wind was from the east, but kept swinging, delaying the first start, and causing a slight delay on the second start, the Race Officer Ross Ryan managed to get the fleet off after a short delay on an outer windward leeward course with two beats so much of each race was held on a beat, run and reach.
Joe Scurrah (Notts County) led the race to take a win, closely followed by Sam Grayton (Notts County youth ILCA sailor in a borrowed boat) both were on on 7s. Ariadne Doel (Notts County), the only 5 rig, finished well in second place on handicap..
Race two saw the battle of the 7 rigs as the breeze slowly increased. This time  Sam Grayton took the win with Joe a close second, they spent most of the race within yards of each other, Hayden Moore (Notts County) who led at the first mark was third.
After a break for lunch the breeze continued to fill in but was still shifting, allowing for some great gains on the leeward gate and keeping the race team busy. Race three saw Joe Scurrah take another win, this time it was Rebecca Ogden (Notts County) snapping at his transom  and Hayden Moore picking up another third.
The final race saw Joe Scurrah pick up his final bullet followed by Sam Grayton, Rebecca Ogden picking up third so keeping ahead of Hayden overall.
It was great to see seven woman sailors participating in this event, and Rebecca third overall.
Notts County will be hosting the RsAero UK woman’s Championship 27/28th September.
The next event in Northern Circuit is Beaver SC is on Saturday 21st June, followed by Draycote Water SC on Saturday 28th June.
