Notts County Sailing Club Performance Sailcraft ILCA Open 2026
A lovely sunny warm day greeted the 23 ILCA sailors on Saturday the 4th of July 2026. The wind forecast was the same as it has been recently which left a few sailors sitting at home thinking it was too windy and a few sailors changing down to smaller rigs. The strong winds never really materialized, leaving a great day sailing for everyone that ventured out onto the water.
Mrs Becca Ogden (Race Officer) did a brilliant job organising her team as a well- oiled machine to run three epic races. Nicholas Welbourn (Stokes Bay) sailed impeccably to lead every single race by the first mark and go onto smash it with three bullets, with second place a fair distance behind… well done Nick! Second, third and fourth were all close with both all sailors having one second place in each of the three races, this meant with 1 leg to go, these three boats could finish in any order… what will happen next. With John Ling (Bartley) finishing second overall and Johnathon Lye (Notts County) finishing third overall and Richard Mason (Notts County) in fourth place. Well done Guys!!
First ILCA 6 sailor was Christine Statham (Attenborough) , closely followed by Notts County sailor Charles Miles-Hayler. First ILCA 4 sailor was local Notts County Sailor Sarah Mason. The first Junior Sailor was Notts County sailor Toby Schofield. WELL DONE!!
A huge thanks goes to series sponsors, Performance Sail Craft, Race Officer Mrs Becca Ogden and her well-oiled Race Team, Fleet Captain Sarah Mason for running the event and the team of Notts County Volunteers which made it a success.
A big thank you also to Graham Stamper for taking photos on the day (see below).
