Notts County SC First of Year Race 2026
A good turnout of 32 dinghies 4 windsurfers Entries for the Notts County Sailing Club’s first of the year racing in aid of Children’s Bereavement Centre (Newark) around £400 raised from entry fees and donations, thanks to al who contributed.
John Sears the race officer got the racing under way on time with a windsurfer fleet, fast and slow handicap. With sunshine to start with and the occasional gust allowing planing the course saw a good beat followed by reaches and second beat. There were visitors from Hykham, Burton and Lochaber, the majority were from Notts County, the weather forecast and cold conditions probably putting many off travelling.
Jamie Mawson in an RS600 led the fast fleet on both races, winning the Goeff Parker memorial trophy with Kevin Hope and Andy Stewart in a Fireball not far behind, and viewing with Jake Willars in an RS600 close by. The Slow fleet saw Joe Scurrah in an Aero 7 lead both races on the water to win the Phil Davis cup.
Cillian Dyne and Hayden Moore won the Junior trophy with James Burton second.
In the windsurfers Sam Birch on a race board won, but not without a case second race with Ian Pilkington on a smaller sail. Ben Bolet was first junior windsurfer.
