How to obtain a volunteer DBS through the club for members requiring it
The clubs Safeguarding Policy has detail on DBS checking. See Policy documents for information.
If you have been asked to obtain a DBS certificate and don’t have one the RYA will carry out the check on behalf of the club.
The panel to right (or below depending on viewing platform) shows the methodology. At present D Eberlin is an Admin and ID Verifier on the RYA system. A pdf version is here dbs check flow chart
When we check your ID we need 3 of the following (at least 1 from option 1) – more details on Government website. After we submit these online (will do it when I see you) the certificate normally comes in around 2 weeks.
- Passport
- Driving licence
- Birth Certificate
- Bank /Building society statement
- Credit Card statement
- P45 or P60
- Council tax
- Tax demand or similar letter from HMRC
- 16-19 year old can also have a letter from head teacher or college principal etc.
After your certificate arrives we need to see it and keep a record of the fact we have seen it (and we like to have number) and date that a DBS has been seen but no other records are kept by the club concerning the details on the DBS. Should anything appear the Safeguarding officer will review and advise.
Please sign up to Update service – free for volunteers but needs annual confirmation. then checking regularly is much simpler, and other volunteer organisations can check as well.
