RS400 Trident northern series at Notts County

Notts County SC welcomed the Rs400 Northern series in the first weekend of September. Visitors from mall over the country travelled to the event. from Pevensey, Yorkshire, the lakes, and lymington.  The series sponsored by Rooster and Trident calls in at clubs throughout the midlands and north of the UK.

Twenty RS400s arrived in the light winds that put many off travelling. there wasn’t a single isobar over the Country so it didn’t look good for th wind, however there was a fickle breeze that kept swinging (90′ at one point) Race Officer Rebecca Ogden made the most of the difficult conditions.

The first start was clean only a few minutes late and providing interesting racing over the Trapezoidal course, Alan Elkington and Steph Gunn (Notts County) led at the first mark, they were soon overtaken by Chris Pickles and Matt Sharman (Bassenthwaite), who took both of the Saturday races, followed by Hamish Gledhill and Ross Southwell (West Riding) who scored a second in both races.

The evening entertainment, led by the Logans, was deemed a success with Pauline’s food adding to the evening, along with the odd pint and some games.

Sunday again saw light winds and a hazy sun, three races were held with Chis & Nicki Webber (Pevensey) winning two races, Tom Halllhead and Paul Hiller (Llandegfedd) winning the final race. As usual consistency paid off. Chris Pickles and Matt Sharman won, discarding a third, followed by Chris & Nicki Webber second, third was the first Notts County team was Gary Knott and Amy Hinsliff-Smith who had been quietly racking up good results in all the races.
