Mid June saw a successful windsurf open with just under 30 entries from all over the Midlands. Seventeen Raceboards raced on the larger course with eight Technos with varying rig sizes. Near the shore was the novice 3.5 and 5.0 Techno fleet. Thanks to the many volunteers who made both the courses with safety cover happen. Especially the Race officers Richard Mason and Natalia Orgonova. We also welcomed several first time racers to the fleet.
The wind was gusting at over 30 mph and very few ended up dry, there were some sunny spells increasing the temperature, but no rain.
The First race saw a prompt start with three top Raceboards, Tom Naylor, Tim Gibson and Gerry Ball (Notts County) having a good tussle, which was to continue throughout the day. Tim won with Gerry second and Tom third. The next race saw Gerry Ball win mainly by surviving a gust up the final beat, Tom was second. The third race in slightly more gentle conditions saw Tom win, with Tim second and Gerry third, with the same results in the final race. Only 3 points separated the top three at the end of the day, Tom winning by a point. Meanwhile in the Raceboard 7.5 Dean Hutchinson (Notts County) had a clean sweep, Tony Goodwin was second in the first race and first time racer Catherine Bartlet (Notts County) second in second race, Barry Collins (Notts County) was second in the third and forth race. It was great to see so many old friends still racing in the Raceboards, along with some newcomers.
The Technos saw Calum Dixon (Northampton) win from Ben Bolet (Burton) in 7.8. All the 6.8 races were won by Belinda Bolet (Burton), and in the 5.8 fleet all the races were won by Esme Halsell with Alan Weatherstone both from Burton second. Some of the top Technos were not far behind the Raceboards, and showing some excellent technique in the difficult conditions.
Prizegiving was held with Russ Towns handing out prizes, it was probably the first meeting he has had to sit on shore for. After the prizegiving many stayed for a social using the new club BBQ, with the odd pint purchased from behind the bar.
