2026 County Cooler

The 2026 County Cooler had a good entry with over twenty dinghies and ten windsurfers. It was cool but not freezing and there was a light to moderate wind, and that rare commodity on Saturday of sunshine (most of the time).

Martin Hayhoe the Race Officer set a double beat course with reaches and near runs giving a good variety for a handicap fleet, as the results show.

The first race was won by Jake Willars in a Phantom, the second by Kevin Hope and Andy Stewart in a. Fireball, both from Notts County. Third in both races was Jamie Mawson in an RS600.

Saturdays final race was won by Kevin & Andy, with Christine Statham in ILCA6 from Burton second and Jake third. The top three were close together with only a few points separating them, all to play for on Sunday.

Sunday was drizzly and much less wind, Jamie Mawson won the two races, with Kevin & Andy second in both and Jake third and forth. Kevin and Andy just won by a point from Jamie Mawson, with Jake a few points behind. First youth was Hayden Moore in an Aero, and First Lady Christine Statham in an ILCA6.

Twelve windsurfers entered, mainly from Burton Sailing Club, Gerry Ball from Notts County had 5 straight wins in the Raceboard class, with Sam Birch (Burton) second, Joe Falkner (Burton) third. In the younger Techno fleet Benjamin Boles (Burton) won every race, with Esme Hartsell (Burton) second in two races and third in the other two.
