The RYA have recently updated their RYA Race courses to help encourage sailors to get into racing and continue with learning. Both the adult and Junior logbooks now contain the syllabus. 

Start Racing is an introduction, delivered by either a Race instructor or Race Coach Level 2

Club racing is a step up providing more detailed and intense training, delivered by a Race Coach Level 2.

Regional and Championship levels require a higher Race Coach (of which we have 2 in the club).

Just after August bank holiday the club delivered a two day RYA Club Race course (following a Start Race at Easter), it is probably one of the first in the Midlands. The six participants were all juniors and youths, many started racing this year and wanted to take their racing to a higher level. Molly Hinsliff-Smith was lead Coach and had obviously prepared well, with some great exercises. She was supported by Kathryn (mum) and Sam Grayton (and Fiona).

The weather was fine generally, and timing impeccable, a heavy rainstorm co-inciding with a lecture (on start lines I think).

All learnt plenty and some need a little more practice to gain their certificate.
