Windsurf open 2023

A good turnout for the open with plenty for Burton, Northampton, Thrapston Bartley and of course the local club Notts County.

Thanks to Natalie and team who led on the Team 15 , the 8 sailors in the 3.5 Team 15 Regatta fleet really seemed to be enjoying the racing and coaching. Whilst Maisie won many of the races there was a lot of place changes further down the fleet, and great to see Josh from Notts County out after only a few weeks windsurfing.

Meanwhile the Raceboards and larger Techno sails had some full on racing on the rest of the lake. The two Raceboard fleets saw some swapping of places esspecially the 9.5 fleet with a different leader on each beat in some races. In the end it was local knowledge that seemed to pay out in the gusty shifty winds. Guy Sprekley on equal points with Gerry Ball, with Guy winning on the last race result, close behind was Tim Coles and John Pete.

Raceboard 7.5 saw Dean Hutchinson swap his foil and shortboard to win, with Barry Collins second (it was the hat !) and 86 (nearly) year old Russ Towns in third.

Of particular note were Tian Zhang, Han Zhang and Amelia Gay who placed in the middle of the Raceboard fleet beating many adults on Raceboards and larger sails.

Quite a few photos, including some from the committee boat by Chris Handley.

Yi Zhang made this great video of the day
